Seattle being the famous "Grunge Capitol" of the 90s led by Kurt Cobain of Nirvana, the Pacific Northwest has had a thriving music scene ever since. Current popular bands of the area include the Issaquah group Modest Mouse and The Microphones of Olympia. Modest Mouse has recently started recording on Sony's big music label though many prefer their older, more raw, sounds to the "mainstream shit", in the words of a true northwestern music snob.

K Records is an indie label in Olympia. They've recorded most of the older Modest Mouse albums, the Microphones (actually a one man show now known as Mount Erie) and Kimya Dawson of Port Townsend, as well as the label's owner and founder, Calvin Johnson.
